Setting up your Online GroceryList

Setting up your OnLine GroceryList

In general, setting up your on-line grocery list should be as simple as entering your google email address in Preferences & Accounts in GroceryList, then going to your Google email and clicking the "Activate" link in the email you received from us. There are some scenarios that make it a little more complicated, however, so I've turned it into a 3-step process.

Step 1 - Find out the email address google tells us when you log-in to the online grocery list.

To do this, click on this link: http://grocerylist.javasanity.org/groceryList.jsp. You will be redirected to a google server to log-in. If you do not have a google account, you can create one at this time as well. Here is what the google log-in page will look like:

After logging in, you will be re-directed to your on-line Grocery List. The following picture shows what that will look like. I have underlined in red the important data for this step. When you log-in as yourself, that is where you will find the email address google provides us when you log-in.

Step 2 - Set the email you saw above in Preferences & Accounts in the Palm GroceryList Application

The next step is to enter the email address into the "Google Account" section in Preferences & Accounts in the GroceryList app on your device. Here is an example of what that looks like:

Step 3 - Click the activate link in the email you receive at the above email address.

The last step is to open the email and click on the first link (the one with a code in it). Here is what the activate email will look like:

HELP: But I didn't receive an Activate email?

There are three possible reasons why you didn't receive the email:

  • The device wasn't on-line when you entered your email into Preferences & Accounts
  • The email was filtered out by your email account SPAM filtering. (Please check your SPAM folder)
  • There is a typo in the email address in Preferences & Accounts

Follow these steps to cause a new email to be sent:

  1. Go into Preferences & Accounts and clear your email address out.
  2. Exit Preferences & Accounts
  3. Go back into Preferences & Accounts and re-set your email address.

Why do we need the extra step?

Practically speaking, it's just a two step process, but over time I've found that it's not always as easy as that. The most common issue is that Google allows you to use a variety of different forms of the same email address, but it only provides our app one form. For example, you can put a period anywhere in your Google email address and it will still be delivered to your email account, but that may not match what Google tells us your email address is.
